Featured L/F leads on a possible frag swap location?

So far it's been a little challenging in the search for a possible location to host our a member frag swap.

Of course there are locations, if money was of no concern $$$$. I'm hoping to identify a location that would be suitable for us at a decent rate. I don't personally feel comfortable paying a few thousand of clubs funds for a facility rental of only a few hours. So don't take this to mean there aren't options. So far they have been insanely expensive hence the delay in announcing our first swap of the year.

We have of course reached out to facilities that we have used in the past on multiple occasions as of yet we have not been able to get a response from them. They aren't officially off the table yet. However it's not possible to proceed without being able to establish communication with them.

<As a side note we are also looking in to the possibility of conducting a open fragswap with a LFS similar to the one we held two years ago in partnership with calikid corals in concord. @Cbruno80 This isn't anything confirmed yet. So only mentioning it to encourage everyone that we are actively trying to put a few things together.>

I'm also following up on a potential connection I have In San Jose Which I expect to hear back from this week.

Do you know of a suitable location with reasonable rates for a potential bar frag swap location.

Some past places we have used have been community centers, halls, recreation centers and even apartment/ housing units community room.

All that to say if you know of a location or have a friend, spouse, family etc that might be able to help us with a location they have access to please reach out to me via dm.

Ideally the location would have:

1.) room for us to host a frag swap with a seating area for members, family, friends.

2.) Restroom access would be a must.

3.) Parking on site or near by for around 35-50 cars.

* Tables and chairs are huge plus though not a outright deal breaker. (Makes things a heak of a lot easier if we don't have to bring them)*

Have you potentially looked at school cafeterias? A quick search came up that Berkeley High charges 67 a hour for use of a cafeteria. I think you would also need to have one custodian @32 an hour as well.

This was my first thought as well. You can just book the cafeteria or gym or wherever

I've not thought about a high-school school since I graduated in 05 in Louisiana. So it honestly never crossed my mind.

I’m guessing outdoors is not an option due to weather and other logistics? There are some nice county parks nearby that do large group reservations (cheap) with bbq pits, covered seating and plenty of parking.

Another local club that is no longer (SEABAY) used to have them outdoors and it sucked for a myriad of reasons, mainly environmental issues.

The cichlid convention does there thing at Parktown Pizza Willow Glen but space might be an issue. They use to do it at the spot on Saratoga that closed. City parks can be a thing, but it's been mentioned above and may have some environmental issues.

On a side note: Breweries are always a good spot when we need bigger indoor spaces. A lot of these business want the extra $$, especially when you are bringing in a big group of people. Most will offer their space for free, as long as there is a commitment of purchase.

Littering? Or pouring lots of saltwater?

I imagine with the warmer months approaching anything with direct sunlight won’t be great temp-wise for the coral either. And outside light might make the corals harder to see (blue flashlights getting washed out).

Speaking of temperatures outside, I can’t believe we’re getting heat advisories in winter. Despite being on the coast with the ocean as a heatsink.

I wouldn't rule out a outside swap provided it's not in southbay or east bay middle of summer time. That wouldn't be a fun endeavor.

Without outside ones it does increase the logistics somewhat. When it comes to acquiring tables chairs ect. Though they could be rented. Making things come down to price point comparisons, effort involved, weather and location as you mentioned and overall practically of hosting it outdoors.

@iani 's gym idea also comes with lots of parking spaces.

City Parks & Recreation departments rent out their gyms and halls. Residents get a discounted rate while out of towners still get a decent rate when compared to private. I use City of Pleasanton gyms and or halls maybe once a year when I want to host something my tiny house can't accommodate.

92 here and I thought of it

Balls in your court, but every single one I have been two (dozen or so) had issues that we never had indoors,
