Well, bigger changes here. I now have a fully functioning AI prime. I was looking it over again, and decided I might as well go deeper and mess with it more. After looking it over more, I realized that circuity is really 3 parts.
Part 1, the central LED circuit, with the LEDs mounted. Part 2, the surrounding power circuit. Part 3, the control board. And I guess part 4 the fan/heatsink, part 5 the case.
With that realization, I decided to pull break down both the AI primes and make one Ship of Theseus new one. I took the LED circuit, fan, LED lens and black case from bfirecat's. I took the control circuit and power circuit from Minnesota's. I did a bunch of testing and put it back together and now I have:
1. Working completely, though I was getting some led Flickr on the Red channel, but I'm hoping that stays resolved (no longer happening)
2. Burnt out UV led, and no working royal blue, but working otherwise
3. The prime16 that's fried
I'm guessing the royal blue channel is fixable, but there's something weird going on that I can't debug. Power gets to the power circuit, there's no immediately obvious discontinuities or by visual frying, but it doesn't push power. I'm not an expert (I was a C student in CE/EE), but it's feeling like the little microcontroller is fried.
Regardless, given the prime 16 is visibly fried and the UV led is also fried, I'm going to try contacting AI tomorrow and check options. If anyone else wants to off load an AI device that's faulty (or even not faulty), let me know and I'll deal with it. Some circuit pics will be in the next post
