Pissed off at PG&E

Just need to vent. They shut off power last night at 10 pm and won’t restore it until tomorrow at noon.

I’m doing my best to keep things warm and oxygenated but it’s going to be difficult.

I have a whole house generator on the way but it’ll be weeks before they install it.

PG&E needs to be held accountable for this bullshit.
 
It’s insane that in such a tech forward state we have our power turned off because of a lack of infrastructure. pge just turns off the power instead of implementing new tech. So frustrating, I hope everything does okay during the outage.
 
Yeah it is frustrating when you work for them and bust your a** putting yourself at risk trying to keep everyone safe while getting all the backlash from everyone. The higher ups sure makes the workers look like the bad guys.
 
This is the one time I wish California let PG&E go bankrupt and took over the utility. Very rare for me to say we need more government, but this is also the one time I think the government would actually do a better job.
 
It’s the worst! The last outage more or less ruined my frag tank. Everything went downhill quick.

I bought a battery backup for the mp10s but still have to sort something out for the heaters.

growing up in CT there were two, they covered different regions of the state but would help each other out when the other had outages and needed support. I think despite regional differences they kept each other price competitive. Competition is good

California is also at fault too for not Maintaining their part of tree trimmings, I know we have a responsibility to do that. There is a tons of private land that we aren’t allowed to go in to. Honestly I hate the media and blamed them for a lot of the hate. They were just hammering us and half of the stuff isn’t even true or over exaggerated. But either than that just start taking photos of everything receipts etc and start making a claim.

I had a landlady like that. It was a fire hazard but she demanded that she “supervise the process”. I just don’t understand that mentality. If you want the feeling of wooded seclusion than keep it safe. My brother in law is a firefighter and he has told me the same thing. We all have to do our part to keep it safe.
 
The real problem:
The power lines should to be underground.
Safer all around, and much less ugly, but expensive, so a for-profit company would never do that.

Personally:
State should be in charge of the "main" underground utilities network in the streets.
  • Power
  • Fiber optic network
  • Water
  • Gas
  • Sewage
Then PGE, ATT, etc, just handles from that to your house.

But that would be socialism....

Can they put those high voltage transmission lines underground? I mean neighborhood power sure, but I can't imagine 100+ kV lines being buried. Plus the areas where they probably cause the most problem due to fire (mountainous, remote, heavily wooded) it probably is not very easy nor practical to bury lines there

Well funny story , San Francisco residents actually paid to have utilities moved underground, in fact they still pay to this day with a $1 surcharge on every PG&E bill for SF residents. Well as it turned out it costs a LOT more than they initially thought to bury lines after cleaning up a few neighborhoods PG&E came back with "Yeah it costs too much, we already spent all the money we received for a few decades".... so PG&E continues to collect their $1 surcharge, and tongue in cheek estimates for when they job is going to be completed based on estimates of rate of work being done is 600 years.... and this was like 15 years ago.

Yes...don't get me started on a long-time poorly managed utility o_O. We are the fifth largest economic entity in the world...and don't have reliable power...
 
@svreef Glad to hear all is well.
@channel - want some interesting reading, check out the concept of digital electricity. Still reliant on grid power but would make routing and power transmission within our homes safer and easier... loosely associated with topic, just though it was cool. #eegeek

Luckily in the city all of the transmission lines are all underground.
