Red Sea G2 180 tank - am I in trouble?

I’ve got a 60” x 30”x 24” tall I’m gonna have to get rid of.

Really appreciate. I'm a bit less freaked out now that it's clamped. let see if i can find a permanent solution with another 180g.

My buddy is selling his CDA tank. Not sure of the gallons but it’s probably at least 180g+. I think the dimensions are 6’x24”x24”? Not positive. I’ll find out tomorrow. He’s in San Jose.

thanks but no more used tanks for me. I want something brand new. trying to save a few bucks is going to cost me much more $$$ and labor, but hopefully not heartache!

I think it does, not sure what it is but i'm guessing it's kind of a corner round bead inside the aquarium?

Not just a corner bead but I think its acrylic in the corner to protect the seam. If so it may just be the armored seam loosening.

Everyone may not have the same opinion but I don't think its a good idea to have your lights sitting like that on the rim of your tank.

SORRY that you got a banana sucks!!Nice using the boards and clamp I would add another two clamps near the top at each end so you have egual pressure the whole way along the seems. Sometimes two much pressure on one end can cause the other to weaken and bulg out a bit sorta like glueing wood together. You also have the whole bottom seem along the front which I would also add a couple clamps for equal pressure. I've seen some red seas start leaking from that area.. There are also wify leak detector pucks/sensors you can place on the floor below that will alert when out of the house or sleeping give them a test making sure there working properly! Honestly Id just start making plans setting up a large temp 150-200g tub nearby or in the garage. 25/50ft RV drinking water hoses or silicone tubing and pumps are your friends should only take a couple hours at the max. Hard to beat a top down lagoon look .. Anyhow Im sure club members will lend a hand including myself if the dates work out if you need. Try not to over think or dwell people break down tanks everyday! Last week I had to drain and pull all my corals and 80% of rocks in a 6ft to get out five big damsels then rescape which only took about two hours.
Call High Tide Aquatics, Fishy Business or Neptunes or other LFS they may have tanks on hand just sitting or have an upper hand on lead time. There is a massive LFS just south of Sacramento off 99 that always has big tanks on the floor not sure what brands.
With your current stand are there front back center or two off center vertical supports?

That is just temporary, I was designing a canopy for the tank.

Was thinking the same with two weighted pressure points on each end but looks pretty light though may get some swelling form wood absorbing moisture. All canopies sit on tanks but have equal pressure all around distributing weight.

I've got two verticals in the front and a solid back covering 2/3s of the rear. I agree with adding a couple more clamps. This is the only seam that looks to be failing, but I'm watching all of the very carefully now. I'll I'll try to pop down to Neptune today - I'd call them but they don't seem to have a phone # to call. Thanks for saving my bacon. I don't think I'd be looking out for this if you had not mentioned it.

They don't do phone calls. The amount of calls that are checking price, animal questions, etc are unreal in the LFS business. You spend all that time helping them, and they go somewhere else or online. Mean while you have walk in customers waiting.

Your clamping looks great to me... I've been down this road a few times.

I would also plan to move livestock to a bucket sooner rather than later. I would not wait for a new tank in place before emptying the leaky tank.

lets not call it a leaky tank. I'm fairly confident the clamps will provide a huge amount of stress relief to the silicone seams. It should hold until I get a new tank. I have outlined the separation zones and if they expand, than it will be time to start emptying it. Hopefully, this will not become a spontaneous catastrophic failure story! Positive thoughts!

@mmartinho I can imagine how this might be making you unsettled specially coz we asked you to be vigilant earlier and that nightmare seems to be unfolding right before your eyes.. but I would suggest you to give it a 2nd thought.. One bad banana doesnt mean the whole bunch is bad.. there are tons of tanks people have been running for years and years (non-red sea of course) without any issues.. If $$$ is not a concern for you, go ahead buy a new one, FWIW, Waterbox has a sale going on right now.. I love my Waterbox.. Innovative Marine, CADE (a little pricey but sexy) were my other 2 options when I was looking for a new tank.. But, honestly, a used tank might serve your purpose for years to come, provided you get the right kind and do your research.. you can easily get a good looking, excellent condition 180g tank for less than $1000, whereas a new one might cost you more than 3-4k.. you did a great job clamping it and it's not going to breakdown overnight, so you still have time to make the 'right' decision and save some money in the process.. Again, just my 2 cents, coz I know this situation can make anyone overwhelmed and take a hasty decision, which may not be the best one (for your pocket in this case)

This is a 187 I believe. Stand and sump included. It is used tho

I personally would not buy any used rimless tanks. Also if you want a canopy, there is no point to get another rimless aquarium.

This is terrible. I am sorry to see this happening to you.

FWIW, rimless tank design in general are inherently terrible. Doesn’t really matter who build it. This is why all G3 Red Sea tanks that are 48” and above are now eurobraced TOP also, not just bottom.

Moving forward, I will carry only G3 425 size and up. Unfortunately I don’t have any in stock at the moment. Sorry.
