Skimmer question

I have a Tunze 9005 and it is my first skimmes so I am still trying to figure skimmers out. I have the air valve open all the way and my bubble height continues to change. Right not it isn't even climbing up the column but the column is coated with a THICK nasty dark green odorous crap. I just started cycling last night so I assume there is a break-in period. But last night before I went to bed I had a good bubble column. What's going on?

Is it a brand new skimmer? It could take couple days for the skimmer to break in. You follow their recommended water level?

Used skimmer and yes I did follow heir instructions.

I would just leave it for couple days and see what happen. Whatever you adjust, do it slowly. It took me several days to figure out the right setting for my 9002.

do I clean out the thick sludge in the neck of the cup or keep it there?

I would clean it out.

did you do the email verification? IIRC, tat was the "approval" component.
