tek5 vs icecap reflector

From what I've read, don't quote me on this but the icecap will give the light a lot better penatration. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=9889775#post9889775

Here is a detailed post on the topic.

got numbers to back up that claim? ;)

I have new tek5 reflectors on my t5.
They are ok (dont have icecaps to compare).
My only problem is that they get stained from salt, not sure if icecaps do too.

They all get stained. All though grimreefer just did a test with brandnew reflectors and heavily soiled (w/ salt) reflectors, the results were that it didn't make a difference. Very weird.

I love the grimreefer's studies, unfortunately all the hard data seems to be buried in threads that have split more times than I have letters in my name due to everyone asking "what lights should i have"

I agree Mike, it takes a bit of searching to come up with the answers. And only sometimes I can say google is my friend for this.

I read that too in RC, but there was no data to support it.

I don't have numbers/data to support and frankly I'm not a sicence type of guy (not knocking it, I'm just not that smart). I base my findings on what happens in my tank. I had a tek for a little while, it was a great light, however I don't think it gave me the same covarage as what I get now with my aquactinics fixture and it had a plus 1 bulb factor (meaning I have 5 bulbs now and the tek had 6)

I go with what I like and if I was going to retro fit a fixture I would get reflectors I would get aquactinics again
