Sorry, no idea on the gen. Bought the Red Sea used from FB market place.

I am assuming you have heard the horror Red Sea crash stories before, they were more prevalent with Gen 1s, and also with Gen 2s, guess that's why @PjFish also wanted to enquire about the same.. We all really hope you don't have to face that ever, sending good vibes only!

Yikes.. No I had never heard of that. You mean those things just bust open?

pretty much, yeah.. the seals break.. @Slingfox recently got a replacement from RedSea coz of the same issue.. I dont want to share links to scare you.. again, happening to someone else doesnt mean this will happen to you, and we wish you the best.. but please be prepared with a plan B just in case things go south.

It is even more of a worry with second hand tanks as well. But if your tank does have armored seams, its less likely for it to happen.

I think I got armored seams. I'm trying to look up the gen. I got the serial # but can't find where I can look up the gen?

Maybe just email Red Sea support to done the information? Probably the purchase date and leftover warranty as well.. not sure if they will honor warranty after resale, do you research and then ask them.. I would also ping the seller to find this information first, before reaching out to support to confirm.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 tanks have both been reported blowing seems. Theres been a lot of discussions on the other big reef forums and YouTube the last several years plus reefers documenting their incidents. Several BAR members here have also had issues with Red Sea tanks as well..Now Red Sea sells a but load of reef ready tanks probably the most out of any name brand out there so odd would be pretty low compared to how may seem failures have been reported. But Im only hearing this here in country have no idea out of country or all the silent reefers. My display tank is roughly the same gallon system as yours plus a 50g sump which was custom made by a local gentleman. Plus a few more tanks around the house..Regardless if brand new or used there is a slim chance could happen to anyone a chance we all take with glass boxes and silicone thats not permanent. Heck my house makes weird cracking noises during the night sometimes which makes me run check the tank even though I know its probably the house lol..People should be somewhat prepared having equipment ready in case of an incident to help save their livestock. Not including extended power outages which mine went out last week for 7 hours thanks to PG&E digging up the neighborhood. Or earthquakes..Example I have a shop vac specifically used for tanks. Several 55 gallon blue barrels which the wife always tells me to give away which I then remind her will use her bathtub for livestock if something happens lol.. large medium and small bins, extra pumps including one large that moves a lot of water fast along with 100 ft of white RV hoses. Bar clamps, ratchet straps, battery bubblers. I fish a lot so big nets are super handy getting multiple fish out fast instead of the small aquarium ones topically used. 600-1000 watt heaters which I should have an inline heater works alot faster. Flex Seal tape the one on TV lol supposed to stop water leaks instantly haven’t tried yet but nothing to loose in that situation. People aren’t going to have everything they need especially new people to the hobby in general but should have some emergency equipment. Those large pop up fabric barrels are cheap and take up no room and will definitely work . being a part of BAR goes a long way not just propagating animals but emergencies also. Over the years Ive seen BAR members helping each other with emergencies really amazing fortunately most of us are fairly close to one another. Looking forward on your build!

This is a single data point but, given all the issues with Red Sea tanks failing in the past (one thread of very many), I'm not optimistic.

I do remember Red Sea sending out center front support bars for their stands may want to check that out not sure what models. Ive seen people make their own support bars and install also.

Sorry @mmartinho , I take the blame of curbing your enthusiasm of setting up a new tank.. this is a special time for anyone setting up a tank, cycling time before adding the livestock is similar to those few days before your marriage as I mentioned above, please don’t worry about the worst, but be prepared for it! Enjoy the journey!

Nah, I'm good. I do appreciate the heads up on the seams giving way. It will allow me to keep a vigilant eye on them.
