I don't want to get an RO/DI unit for my 12G tank. Is it ok to use drink water when the tds is only 2? Is there other stuff I need to check?

I've used bottled distilled in the past when I was unable to drive out to the LFS

I get all of my water from a local water store, I take care of his tank he hooks me up with water ~200g a week 0tds I don't have room for an R/O arrangement for large quantities.

[/quote]Dude's R/O unit is the size of a large R2D2 driod it pumps like 100g per minute with a 6:1 clean to reject ratio, it has a booster that pushes 200psi to the membrane, it's very efficient. I'd waste a lot of water here in Montara if I used R/O.

Might be a stupid question but how do you test for tds? Are there simple kits? I found a Whole Foods that dispenses water which is much closer than the Glacier dispenser that I've been going to. But I'm a little worried about changing water because it's been working so well since I started the tank.

Thanks guys... I will make sure I test it everytime I use it.

BurTBear, you can get them online. Just search for tds meter.
