I would stay away from SPS and clams. It can be done with PC's but I've seen enough people with failures to recommend it.

I'd like to try a clam and at least one SPS. I could build a new hood and put in a MH lamp, I guess. I dunno, it seems like there's a lot of superstition about lighting. Fluorescent lamps are not much less efficient than metal halide, per watt. Light power falls off with the square of distance, so having the lamp close to the water and the animal close to the light does a lot.

You'd be surprised how little light some clams need. I have a crocea that has basically been shaded for over 6mths. Its doing fine, just as well as the other clams I have. I think in your case its more about stability than light. I believe a lot failures that people attribute to light are probably b/c of instability in tank conditions instead.

I got the green and pink birdnest, orange and green cap, orange and purple digitata.

Nice. Those sound really lovely. I'd love to get frags of a couple of those. Will you be at the frag swap?

Likewise, this sounds like a good hint for those of us with old DBTC debts to re-bump before the frag swap. I'm sre Pixel can get some suitable DBTC frags and many of us can make room for new ones from the swap.

Yeah, I'd love to get several DBTC corals. I feel bad that I'm taking now and I don't have anything to give back yet, but I love the idea of stocking with mostly captive propagated corals and being able to grow them out and give them to others later.

Don't feel bad. DBTC is a pay it forward system. In time, you will be able to pay forward the debt (for every frag you get, you pass additional frags of that coral forward) and that is what it is all about. Eventually you will also be able to start your own chains too and that is even better:)

If you feel bad for taking DBTC frags. consider it this way: Would you feel better flat out taking a free coral from someone here (I bet lots of us would just give you certain frags) or taking a frag knowing that you will return the favor 2 fold? For me, getting free coral is fun, but being able to return them and build the chain feels even better.

Yeah totally!

Send jeremy (tuberider) an PM and he can square you away.

I'll be bumping a bunch of DBTC threads later tonight. Nothing really special, but they really are right up your alley in terms of easy things to start with. Also, these are things I'll toss into the frag swap among other nicer things (since I need more tank space lol).

Off topic, but where'd the swap volunteering thread go? I'd love to help out but I can't find it.

Sweet. I'll keep an eye on the DBTC threads. Thanks!
