I’m trying to take full advantage of my iPhone 12 max pro camera but just seem to not be able to take a super clear picture. I’m debating to get a DSLR camera in the near future. Is it even worth it.?

When your corals look like that...yes.

I assume you know this, but you need to keep the lense perfectly parallel with the glass (or I guess perpendicular depending how you look at it. Phone parallel with glass.) otherwise it distorts a lot. Also the closer things are the the glass, the easier it is to get a nice pic.

I’ve been getting good pics with my 12 pro. Make sure it isn’t doing the long exposure either, it might be trying to do a 1 sec exposure if the light is low. With the 2x telephoto camera you can also get nice zoomed in top down shots without having to do a digital zoom (aka cropping)

I also have tried the raw photo and Lightroom apps to mess around with white balance to try and get some pics without a filter.

here are some top downs

It’s been a while since my tank update. My tank unfortunately crashed mid January due to an ato failure, while I was completely checked out from covid. For some reason I didn’t received a power notification that my pump turned off from my apex. So who knows how long my display was without water from my sump and heat and didn’t noticed the issue until I was told I could get off quarantine. Noticed my tank was 63 degrees. Covid isn’t a joke and took me out for 3 and half weeks. I’ve lost a lot most of my frags only 10 survived. All my fish surprisingly survived but my yellow tang, thank god for my mp40s running. I Was debating on quitting the hobby specially after having not one but two major tank crashes due to a bubble bath and now covid. But decided to get it together and start bringing everything back to stable conditions. Month and half later, My tank is now doing great. I am happy where my perameters are at now. Doing a two week water change. The 10 surviving frags that made it are looking really happy now. (Which 3 are from dbtc) all from Omar, green slimmer which is growing nice and the deep water acros. Everything has shown great polyp extension, and colors are coming back along with crazy growth. Got rid off my trident, dos and ddr and upgraded to a reef octopus varios cr200 calcium reactor with a calcium doser. Reason why I got rid off my trident and doser is because I got too lazy and wasn’t testing as much and not being involve with my tank. I decided to be more hands on and be more involve and tighten up the husbandry of my tank, which is showing great results. Sorry for the pictures but took them after I moved my frag frag rack to clean the glass and so polyps are retracted on from of the frags.

So I’ve been blessed with another beautiful colony a family friend gave to me. Didn’t realized he was into reefing this whole time. He needed his rainbow loom colony out of his 34 gallon reefer because it was blocking the flow. So he asked me to take it and make sure it grows super huge.

100 gal 6 ft? I hope you’re wrong. That’s a very narrow tank...or maybe super shallow?
