Hi! I didn’t realize there was a second page to this conversation! I’d like to confirm my spot for the behind the scenes tour but please let me know if there’s no space as I probably wouldn’t come that far for this time for just the morning. I haven’t bought a ticket but I’d need to cancel my dog day care Not sure why my email isn’t public so it’s tuuli.morrill@gmail.com. For those attending the Monterey Bay Aquarium tour on Wednesday, let’s plan on meeting at 9:30 am under the big logo sign near the entrance. I’ll be standing there in a navy blue aquarium shirt wearing my name tag that reads “Michael”. Doors open at 9:45ish and people are admitted at 10 am. If possible, buy your entrance tickets online ahead of time. Post here if you have any questions.

Since the original post said nothing about having to confirm later, and one or both of those 2 supporting members may well have made plans to attend and bought tickets but just not noticed this or come by BAR in the past couple days, I would not recommend booting them without hearing from them directly that they can’t go.

@JVU you make a valid point. I'll let you decide being you will be there in person.

I'll admit there was a failure on my part to properly communicate that in the orginal post. That I would later seek a reconfirmation. (Thisnis something thatbi will be sure tobmake a diligent effort to avoid repeating in the future)

@FooFtr I'll also personally apologize to you for seemingly going back and forth here however I've totally failed to consider the points made by John in his response.

We have done this several times over the years (though not recently). It all depends on having a willing tour guide, so I really appreciate @mlang. Hopefully it’s fun for him too and we get invited back

@MichaelB you can look and see how we did it in previous years on old threads to reduce the chances of issues. Generally, cutoff date for signup, mechanism for randomly deciding if there are more interested members than spaces, +1’s only if space allows after that.

Matt Wandell at the Monterey Bay Aquarium has agreed to give BAR members another behind-the-scenes tour of the aquarium! We’ve done these before and they are amazing.

Tour is scheduled for Friday 5/19, 12:00-1:30p. We will meet in the lobby inside the Aquarium, and the tour will start at 12:00 sharp so please be there 5 min early. We realize midday on a Friday will not work for some people, but had to work with what was available.

The tour is open to Supporting Members. We have a cap of up to 20 people only. We will first open it up to members only, and if we...

That may work in theory but what happens when there is spotty interest and there are open spots close to the date? A member with a +1 commits to fill the spots, then a member decides they want to attend last minute (whatever last minute means)? Does the +1 get bumped?

Also, if it’s so popular, are members allowed attend more than once? Should there be a cap on that?

These are just things to think about before the next outing.

Maybe look at my old threads. I kept a rsvp and standby list. Jvu attended my event before.

I was one of the original that signed up for the behind the scenes tour, but I won't be able to attend due to a semi serious back injury that occurred at work. I apologize for leaving the group hanging on a confirmation.

I'll definitely put more thought into the next time we do one of these. Thanks for all the suggestions from the veterans here. This was my first time organizing one of these so granted I was shooting from the hip mainly.

@Darkxerox I did enquire about posting images. Unfortunately the Aquarium's policy does not permit posting of behind the scenes pictures or videos on social media, and that includes the club's web site. Attendees were allowed to take pictures/videos on the condition that they keep them for there personal use. Showing them to others is fine, just no posting. I hope to be able to do this tour again but if images leak out on to social media, it will be difficult. I think it might be okay to do a zoom call where people could present their images. If there is any interest in that, I could confirm with the aquarium that this level of sharing is ok.
