    Gear Swap @ BAP

That is a great attitude! One of the goals envisioned for the Gear Swap is to help new folks who may be deterred by the cost of the hobby dip their feet into the water with budget-conscious equipment. They may not be the latest and greatest, but somehow we managed to get by with these...

    Volunteers Needed for BAP

Thank you all for graciously offering to help! Updated the list in the OP. Charlie, your DBTC seminar has some overlap with the Gear Swap so I am holding that open for another volunteer. I'm sure Mike would be glad to have your help with the swap anytime you're not otherwise engaged.

[Oct 19, 2013] 2nd Annual Breeding and Propagation Workshop (Hayward, CA)

That might be helpful, huh? Sorry, haven't had a chance to have lunch yet today and it's affecting my brains. Here is the working version of the schedule of events, it's not much to look at yet. Still in progress and potentially some shuffling to occur.

    Emergency Fish Medications

I was treating a new fish the other day and Monkeybiz's suggestion for emergency equipment came to mind. I keep a fairly sizable pharmacy of fish meds, and so far the arsenal has taken care of just about all the various parasites and diseases I've come across. It's not always possible to get...

    Gear Swap @ BAP

Thank you for the generous donation, Ed! I'll pick up the skimmer from you this Sunday on my way back from Steinhart and give it a thorough vinegar bath and cleaning.

    Gear Swap @ BAP

It just makes it easier to match buyers and sellers who are interested in having a portion of the proceeds go towards helping the club. Whatever you want to donate is appreciated, and you can do a sliding scale system or whatever works for you. :)

Messing with a the new camera... tank shots

Nice shots! I am a sucker for photos of puppies, kitties, and clownfish frolicking in anemones. Please, no questions about how I get puppies and kitties to frolick in anemones. ;) We're looking to put together a photography workshop next year, make sure you come out to that!

Prop your corals to help the club!

There is no shortage of master proppers in BAR. This is a great opportunity to show what you've been successfully growing and make your corals genetically successful, all while helping to raise funds for the club. I'm planning to contribute a few clownfish frags. ;)

    Using/cleaning refractometer

Using a regular non-digital refractometer and if there is no significant concern with cross-contamination, I would typically rinse the cover and prism with the water to be tested. In my head, this is consistent with rinsing a test tube with the water to be tested.

    Kessil a150w gooseneck

The previous setup doesn't look so bad to me, however it pays to make the wife happy! :D I had the base of the Kessil gooseneck partially submerged for over a year, and it showed no signs of rusting nor leeching anything into the water. If you're concerned, a few coatings of marine sealant...

    MARS 2013 Frag Swap

Thanks for the invitation, Anne! The MARS frag swap was a blast last year. Unfortunately this year I have a conflicting wine release party that the wife is adamant about attending. Best wishes for a fun swap!

Gee, how big is your car, Arnold? :D Gear swap will be outside the speaking hall and may extend into the parking lot for bulkier items. Bondolo is heading up this portion and may have his own ideas.

    2013 Florida Coral Spawning Project

Based on the work of the scientists bravely diving in the tropical reefs annually (tough work!), one day we may be able to collect, fertilize, and settle our own coral larvae!

    2013 Florida Coral Spawning Project

Good question! I was wondering myself. From SECORE: It seems that Steinhart Aquarium has some of the settled larvae from this project in their Caribbean system. Hopefully we'll have good news from the biology team in a few weeks.
