    Upcoming move and tank placement

The amount of support varies by location. If you are perpendicular to the floor joists and at a wall, that will have the most support. Out in the middle of a room and parallel to the joists is usually the worst. How is access to the crawl space?

[Frag Swap Question] What do you want for the Members Frag Swap?

Since I don't care either way and we can pick two choices, I voted yes/no! :D

    Reef Hobbyist 40B

The problem with shorter lenses (60mm vs. 100mm) is the max focus distance is shorter. This means you can't focus at 1:1 very far from the aquarium glass. Your subject needs to be close to the aquarium glass.

    What are my clowns doing

They are called clown fish for a reason! :) Have you thought of giving them some structures to play/hide among? Two inch PVC elbows and tees are cheap and easy to clean.

MH / LED usage in 2016

This is a great discussion. We all come at this with different needs and desires. So far the discussion has been friendly - not a flame in sight! If you haven't seen it, BRS is doing a '52 weeks of reefing' series that is quite good. Their discussion of lighting options starts on week 18 and...

MH / LED usage in 2016

I choose LED for one main reason. HEAT! My house has no AC. I live in Santa Rosa. It can get hot in SR! I had a tank with MH. The whole house got hot! The tank got hot! With LEDs that's not a problem and I don't have to get AC for the house and a chiller for the tank. I am thinking about...

    70 Gal Keith Grandt tank

What? No pics of the sump running? :( Tank looks good. Love your scape. If the return pump is making noise, try a silicone hot pad/pot holder under the pump and anywhere the return tubing touches the stand. Works wonders!! If you didn't age the rock first, let it stew in the tank for a while...

    Apex Salinity probe versus refractometer?

In ReefThreads #245, Craig Bingman discusses various methods to test for salinity. Although the whole podcast is interesting, the discussion about testing starts at about 24:15.

    Apex Salinity probe versus refractometer?

Mark, I'd trust the refractometers. Simpler tech, less to go wrong. Salinity probes are, from what I've read, temperamental. I wouldn't trust it to do automated w/c or salinity adjustments.

    Tslot stand

That would be lots easier to build and not use as much materials. How much do the sides need to be supported? I know with a framed glass tank you only need to support the corners. I've seen many commercial racks that only support the tank from the short ends.

    Closed Loop plumbing advice needed

I respectfully disagree with that statement. PVC fittings are cracked by OVER tightening! NPT fittings are tapered. The more you tighten, the more force to split the female fitting. Lubrication via paste or tape just makes it easier to split the fitting. The correct way, from the manufacture:

    BAR's New T-shirt

The order page says there are 2 print colors on the front and 3 on the back. Text looks the same to me. They would most likely be less $$ without the third color on the back. If there are only three colors the black is the ONLY choice, IMHO! :) Grey just looks like a white one I've worn for a...

Reliable Heaters? (eheim jagers consistently crapping out)

Ebo, now Eheim-Jager have been my go to heater for years. I've got one in my FW tank that must be at least 10 years old. In the reef tank I have them set two degrees above the off point controlled by the Apex. This way their thermostats never cycle unless the Apex goes bonkers (two times in the...

    New reefer

Welcome Natalie. Is this your first aquarium? You might want to reconsider the glass cover. SW tanks like lots of exposed water surface.
