lhuynh's 750 Red Sea Reefer XXL

Update here. Thanks to @Coral reefer for helping to install a 55 watt UV about 2.5 weeks ago. First thing that happened was chaeto started melting. No idea why. It was doing really well but then just started turning white. Anyway, assume this contributing to raising NO3 and PO4 but nowhere...

    Red Sea Reefer Peninsula 650

I actually didn't measure the flow. Probably should at some point but since I am focused on dinos/algae, I was told it was less critical. I am running the 3" 55w.

lhuynh's 750 Red Sea Reefer XXL

Thanks @max_nano. Reading around, folks have been able to fit it in the first chamber. I feel comfortable just grabbing one from the nearby Petco. Now for the main tank, I think I've settled on going with a Lifegard 55w (though I'm not ruling out Aqua UV 57w), but I doubt I trust my ability to...

They do. It's a 5w bulb. Is that enough?

lhuynh's 750 Red Sea Reefer XXL

OK, after months with stable parameters (NO3 2-5ppm, PO3 .03-.08, Alk 7.5ish, pH 8.3, Ca 395, Mg in acceptable range, ICP tests confirm nothing out of whack) and not much positive to show for it, I decided to have someone look at things under a microscope. Thanks to @IOnceWasLegend for taking a...

    Anyone with a microscope?

Ever since I started dosing to get NO3 and PO4 to get them above zero, I've had algae/cyano/dino issues. I did the shake test and filtering, and the slime didn't reform, so I HOPED it wasn't dinos. After 4 months, I'm still fighting things. Lost a number of frags along the way of all types. My...

Still battling algae, but what should I do with coral in QT?

I do. It's just the OEM lights. PAR is about 150-180 where the SPS are, so it's low for an extended period, I think. I am not that experienced, but that's my assumption based on my research. I'm ready to move them and would have already if not for main tank issues.

Still battling algae, but what should I do with coral in QT?

I've been battling cyano and hair algae since I started dosing to get my NO3 and PO4 in better balance (2+ months now) in my Reefer 750 XXL. Regular testing and ICP results show there's nothing in my water parameters that would indicated something egregiously wrong. That said, most of the LPS in...

Triton ICP Results -- Feedback Welcome

Thanks. The numbers look good. I'm still dealing with cyano and hair algae that have invaded since upping NO3 and PO4.

Triton ICP Results -- Feedback Welcome

All, I have been dealing with LPS struggles and algae once I started dosing to get my NO3 above zero. Much of it detailed here: https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/not-looking-good-caulastraea-with-tissue-necrosis.26596/ It was recommended I do an ICP test. Results are here...

Not looking good: caulastraea with tissue necrosis?

Here are the results of my Triton ICP test https://www.triton-lab.de/en/showroom/icp-oes/125109 @ofzakaria Does anything stand out here? Tank is very brown now on sand, rocks, and glass. There's cyano growing. I'm going to do the dino shake test again soon. No snail deaths, but this stuff is...

Not looking good: caulastraea with tissue necrosis?

I haven't done that before. Is it just ordering a kit like this? https://www.amazon.com/ICP-Analysis-Elemental-Water-Test/dp/B071HVPBVD/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=icp+test&qid=1600833343&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sr=8-4
