The goal of this section is to allow Supporting BAR members to propose ideas that improve the reefing community, support the mission of BAR, and create long-term value for members.
- Any Supporting member can submit an initiative proposal.
- The proposal author is expected to help drive the initiative forward if approved.
- Proposal should be created as a POLL under "Wouldn't it be good if" sub-forum with 2 options:
- I support this idea.
- I do not support this idea.
- Community members can vote, comment, and help refine ideas in the individual threads.
- Once a proposal receives 10 votes, it may be presented to BAR Board Members for review and approval. 10 votes tells us that there is enough backing for the idea.
- Proposals can be made for anything - purchasing equipment for lending, schedule events, charitable donations, supporting reefing community outside BAR etc.
- Board approval does not guarantee funding - proposals may be approved fully, partially, or as a smaller pilot project.
Give your idea a short clear title.
Briefly explain the idea in 2–5 sentences.
Explain how this initiative benefits BAR members and supports the mission of the club.
List any expected costs, equipment, tools, storage, software, or recurring expenses.
Include rough estimates if possible.
What ongoing work is required?
Who will help drive this initiative if approved? Additional volunteers/supporters can also be listed.
List any known concerns or limitations.
How would BAR know this initiative is successful?
Important Notes
- Not every proposal will be approved.
- Community votes indicate interest, not guaranteed funding.
- Smaller, realistic, well-scoped ideas are more likely to succeed.
- Transparency and collaboration are strongly encouraged.
- Respectful discussion and constructive feedback are expected from all members.
