Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Also, just like that, the cyano is gone....I did literally nothing at all.

Started dosing vodka @ 10ml/day since my nitrates were too high for the Hanna to get a reading. I've always been curious about carbon dosing so we'll see what happens.

I also stopped dosing the Isol8 MT for trace given the issues with iodine @JVU , and I mixed some TM Elements A/K into my Alk and Ca at about 10%. It's a more complete trace profile than Isol8, will get dosed in the same ratio as total alk consumption, and hopefully allows my iodine to come down. Got some cool new 5L containers to hold more as well. ESV dosing is up to 120ml/day so these should last longer. They came with a nice john guest fitting and internal acrylic tube:

The GMKs I got from @Finnaddict at the frag swap are really multiplying. Started as 2 polyps. I'm not a zoa guy really but this has always been one of my favorite corals, and they always melted on me. Grateful to Joel and happy they are doing so well lately:

I stopped the vodka dosing almost immediately - a super thick bacterial slime was building up in the return area. I am thinking the vodka wasn't getting dosed into a high enough flow area, so I'll deal with it later. Growth and PE are really great right now so I'd rather just kind of leave things alone anyway.

Some pics, still practicing with the camera:

After I tossed my felt socks and went to mesh only for 3 days a week did notice some slime a month or so later building up!
I put a tiny sicce pump in my return chamber stuck to the wall blowing over the rubble which helped with that slime build since there was really no water movement. Also the amphipod population and other critters in the rubble exploded which have leveled off now most likely from the extra crap and food dumping into the sump now. Gota love the bugs like worm composting they get the job done!
Tank looks killer!
Reminds me of those German/Netherland tanks on this guys YouTube channel he films

You totally should get rid of those @ReeFi lights, those colors are terrible! ;)

The battle rages on between this big chalice and monti. But I think I have to finally deal with it - the monti is about to start climbing up the base of the acro behind it, and the chalice is about to start shading the little mille behind it. The plan is to pull the rock out (it's loose - I think I can get it out by itself) and frag these up and do my best to scrape them off the rock.

I hate to do it, because they're a really cool part of the tank and have been there since the beginning, but I don't think I can just let them grow forever and start killing things. Sad dilemma...
