Chuffed to bits, received these today after a month long wait! Can't wait to put them on and get in line for the PAR Meter to do some testing :D

I will soon put 2 Lightly used Kessil AP9x and a 57" AI Blade Grow (can be used on 5ft or 6 ft tanks, as I was doing) on marketplace.. LMK if there is any interest in buying any of those lights.. These lights are wonderful and provide really great shimmer.. check this build thread for some tank pics under those lights

Outstanding lights, thinking about buying these for my birthday.

Only drawback is that they should not be kept in a canopy or other closed up environment.

Otherwise, I have not heard any complaints from Europe, other than that they are too expensive.

I have heard only good things about the light, but some really average reviews about the app, but apparently it's just a 1 time pain while setting up.. will know more in next few days!

If it is like my original ATI Stratons, you just need to login to your router to see what IP address is assigned for your lights. That IP address is used to login to change the light settings. Hopefully it won’t be too hard with the new ones.

I may be interested in buying an ap9x depending on price and how much extra money I have at the time. Those stratons look nice are you putting 2 or 3

I found some time to install the Stratons.. AP9X are ready to go.. I have 2x AP9x and 2x Mounts.. Asking $450 for AP9x and $50 for the mount.. Please let me know if you would like to buy these. I will be putting them on marketplace soon.

I thought (read was hoping) 2 would be sufficient, but I am feeling the need to add another one.. I am still running the AI blade to supplement the light in the middle of the tank, but the coverage of 2 Stratons isnt just enough for a 6' tank (although they claim so) - I guess that might also be because the lights are not mounted at 1/3rd and 2/3rd length of the tank (due to the lid restrictions). Pocket and wife are not going to be happy.

App definitely sucks.. Instructions say to stay within 5ft of the light, like right there in front of the tank.. I was sitting on the couch like 10 ft away and had issues connecting to the light! like really? in this day and world.. wth

I was playing with the color spectrum settings and faced an issue where the light completely turned off.. Spent 30 mins to figure out that the light's time went out of sync and they thought it was 9 PM in the night here and hence decided to turn off.. I did a hard reset and re-added the lights to the app, but not going to touch the settings until I really need to.

You probably need 1 more pendant. Maybe 2. My OG Stratons are 18.5x18.5” per light which lights up to 30x30”. The new straton X is 14.3x14.3” and lights up to 34x34”. I feel like I should add a third light to my current 59” inch tank as I get some shading at the edges and middle, so I’m thinking 4 Straton X should be fine if you want to go SPS dominant in the future. 3 lights might be okay if you are only keeping your tank LPS dominant. You can change the time zone in the settings somewhere. I recommend changing the light settings on your computer rather than phone.

Do you know a good divorce lawyer by any chance? :)

On a serious note, dont think I will need 4, 3 should be enough to cover 72" even for SPS dominant tank (as per the specs it delivers an average of around 390 PAR in a 24-inch by 24-inch footprint at 24 inches below the light.)

Yeah sync time zone option is under Devices, but it's so buggy.. I clicked apply like 20 times, but didnt work.. hence factory reset was the only option left for me.. thanks for the tip on using computer, I didnt know I could do that.. I will do some reading!

The app sucks, but light years ahead of the app used in previous ATI lights. One more should be good. You can always turn them up if anything. I have 2 over a 36 inch tank and have them dialed down to 60%. You're going to love these.

Got results of the 1st ICP test (used ATI OES) I got done since I setup the tank.. I have a few questions for fellow experienced reefers:

  1. I keep the Salinity at 1.023 and then dose AFR and Mg to bring the ACM numbers to 8.5, 420, 1350.. according to the results, Ca (421) and Mg (1409) are above normal/critically high, since apparently their target range is based off the salinity.. Checked with chatGPT and it said that I may be creating 'ionic imbalance'.. Never thought about it this way.. Shall my target Ca and Mg range be dependent on the salinity I keep my tank at?
  2. There are certain elements that are above the expected range and some are below.. I can start dosing the ones which are below the range, shall I do anything to bring the ones above the expected range lower?
  3. Fe, Mn, Zn are non detectable along with few other trace elements.. I think OES tests are not precise enough to detect these elements, but I am aware that Fe and Mn are good for gonis, so I started dosing Fauna Marin Color Elements Green (https://fishandcoralstore.com/product/fauna-marin-color-elements-green-250/). It has a few other elements which are not depleted in my tank.. What's everyone strategy to dose trace elements - Individual trace elements or something like what I am using (or Tropic Marin K+ for instance etc).
  4. No Pollutants except slight levels of Aluminium detected.. When I bought Mesh Lid from waterbox, I remember someone mention, keep an eye, it can leak Aluminium in the tank.. not sure if that's the source, but do I have to worry about it? at the moment, its still in green range as per the ICP test, but may become a problem later?
As expected Nitrates and Phosphates are crazy high.. I started dosing Elimi Phos Rapid AFTER this test was sent.. numbers look better now, but still no where close to the expected range haha).

Why do they consider Mag 1400 critical ? Alot of reefers keep 1400-1500 constantly with .026 or lower salinity.. I know dilution can raise numbers but critically in a few points? ...Never have talked to @chatGPT. Some folks around here who use natural sea water only rely on water changes while others need to supplement Ca, Mag into our local NSW for their coral appetites. Which technically is considered ionic imbalance in using local nsw.. But not with other parts of the world like Australia since their Mag parameters can be considerably higher. Some coral farmers keep their ca and mag alot higher then the recommended with no ill effects rather to avoid lower swings in parameters which could be more serious effects . I do think alot of reefers have ionic imbalance without knowing especially if corals suddenly get super hungry with growth explosions or not compensating if loosing corals thus lack of consumption will keep ca, mag at higher levels. Using different salts make a difference which some are really high in parameters which they are imbalanced at the start at .026..Im no chemist and use a Ca Reactor.. Have you reached out to the reef chemistry thread on R2R?

so according to them at 1.023 salinity, my ideal Mg levels should be 1112 mg/l.. hence 1400 mg/l which might be ideal if I maintained 1.026, is critically high for them, which is something I really dont understand.. seems like all the results are based off of the salinity I maintain in the tank.

Have you reached out to the reef chemistry thread on R2R?
hvnt done that yet

ah I can chime in on this, im currently battling high mag somewhere between 1500-1600, maxed out the salifert kit plus had add another .2ml to get it to change color. from what I've been reading and its slightly contentious but their are actual scientific studies that back it up,is mag levels over 1500 can act as a paralytic on snails, effecting theory muscles. but am also seeing some amazing coral growth, especially my months seem very happy.

Well, this is my take on what matters:

1. Salinity

With this inappropriate salinity, the ICP has little value.

Most of these key parameters adjust for salinity and will therefore show reference points that are not helpful.

Action: Get salinity to the well-known reference points around 35 PSU, plus / minus 0.5, if possible.

2. F

Important but far too low. I prefer keeping it at 3 x times the amount.

F will increase with salinity as well, but only to about 0.67 once salinity is at 35 PSU. This needs to be slowly dosed, but I assume you are using a cheap salt, which is often the reason for low F.

3. MG

There seems to be an obsession in the US with MG. Often due to heavy social media promotion. Gonies will be perfectly fine with 1350 mg/L, anything higher is not needed, but also not really detrimental unless you are reaching >1600 mg/L.

4. MO

Important but far too low.

12-15 is preferable.

5. V / Cu / Ni / Zn

All should be much higher and should help with nutrient reduction once dialed in. Their (ATI) seawater references are the lowest acceptable levels of these and should at least be met, ideally higher.

6. Nutrients

These are *really* high (I was tempted to use expletive language but stopped short of following through).

Happy to share more thoughts but did not want to make it more complicated than needed.
