Gimmito's 450 gal L-shaped tank

Geo. Once it is dialed in you can just let go for pretty much 6mos to a year, given that you got appropriate size for your system. I would think your system would be too large for dosing.

I went with dosers on my 225-ish.
The dosers work well, but I end up refilling them more than I would like. Easy to fix with larger containers of course.
I like being able to tweak Alk/Calc/Mg independently.
Cost could be an issue, depending on where you buy the chemicals. I use the dollar store / BRS, so not bad.

I do have to check/tweak the settings far more than every 6 months. Like twice a week right now, since my
tank is changing so much.
But in a way, that is a good thing, since otherwise I would probably forget/procrastinate on the testing,
until something really goes wrong.

Dosing close to a liter per day for that tank if you get the brs type mix yourself 3 part I would guess. 5 gal containers would last almost three weeks

Update on the 40 gal fuge. I added 2" of Carib Sea Eco Complete Substrate and another couple bags of live sand (total of 5"). Scott Fellman recommended Gulf Coast Ecosystem for seagrass and I'm thinking of trying shoal grass (Halodule Wrightii) and some type of red macroalgae for contrast. Russ at GCE is great to work with an extremely knowledgable. I also picked up a slightly used Aquatic Life 4x39 HO T5 fixture and will use a mp10 for flow.

Pretty cool!
You might want to swap out the actinics on that light though, with much warmer / redish bulbs.
I would think for seagrass and such you need more on the red end of the spectrum.

I haven't had a chance to swap out any bulbs yet. I actually need 6,500 bulbs for the sea grass.

Ed at Aquarium Currents updated the motors for my Sea Swirls. It's capable if much more flow now and is whisper quite. Ed also sent me some 1 1/4" couplers that enables the Sea Swirls to sit lower in the water without the need of loclines.

Ok Judges, we need a ruling, does this constitute him having the tank up and running??

American judge: No
Mexican judge: No
German judge: NEIN!
PG&E judge: Well we'll be charging him more on his bill.

Sorry Jim, but good progress anyways! Well except for that surge strip you have floating above your tank! ;)
