HELP NOW!

Since everybody has asked me to ask before I buy something, I've decided to ask. As you may know, I'm getting a 34gal for Christmas. I saw some tank raised baby yellow stripe maroon clowns about 3/4 inch at the LFS and thought that a pair of those would be very nice to have. Since I would be getting them at a very young age, do you think it would be okay to get a pair? I was also thinking of putting a six line wrasse in with them. He is about 1/2 an inch right now. I'm getting my 34gal on the 26th and would let is cycle with lots of live sand and rock. I would buy the fish tomorrow and have the LFS keep them until my aquarium is cycled so that I get a good selection of the maroon clowns. Does that sound okay? I was also thinking of getting a bubble tip anemone (not rose) later on.

Do you not see clowns like these very often? If the answer is that you do I would just wait until your tank is cycled and then buy them, you seem to have a habbit of being attached to things very quickly and chances are you could change your mind regarding stocking a tank you don't even own yet and still has awhile before it's ready for fish

If you can avoid it, I'd say stay away from Maroons, they are mean suckers, and I've seen many cases where they "harass" their own anemone to the point where it doesn't grow. Also as Roc said wait on the fish, they're not rare by any means, so no need to jump all over the purchase.

As to the anemone assuming tank conditions are right, stick with the bubble tip, they're a bit more resilient than others although not bullet proof.

I'm pretty sure Maroon clowns get pretty big (around 6") and the suggested tank size from multiple sites is 30G for one, 60G for a pair. Also, many sites state the Maroon clown is pretty aggressive. Based on what I'm reading I say not a good idea.

We gave away our Maroon, too mean.

+1 here. My Maroon ended up getting too big and too nasty. Talk with Fingerwinkles and get a true bonded pair of clowns. He breeds them locally and they are great (I have three myself).

As for anemone, get an RBTA. There is sure to be one available here sometime soon. I've passed along two myself. If you want a small GBTA, I still have one sitting in my fuge.

If I get the smallest ones, would that help? Also, I'm not planning on getting them tomorrow. I'm saying I'd buy them tomorrow and have them kept there until the tank cycles. I really like the maroons and would like to give them a try. Since they are tank raised and still very young, will they still pair up? They had about 10 at the LFS and they were all piled on top of each other (not fighting, biting, or nipping) but they looked very relaxed. I know they would grow up to get big and mean, but If I bought two at the same time while they are still very young, and raised them together would they pair up? Kepp in mind they are tank raised and VERY young.

After doing some extra reading, I found it said the yellow stripe maroons get 5" and a less aggressive. It said if you buy them in a pair when they are young and small they might have a better chance of pairing up. It said they are also better if tank raised (which is what I want)

I had a pair of maroons for years. They were very aggressive and would attack anything that came too close to them. It got to the point that I hated putting my arm in the tank because that big female could bite very hard and even attacked my arm or hand like crazy.

They were together for probably three years when the male got sick and I got him in quarantine for a week. I never thought it would be a problem to reintroduce him again because they have been together for so long. The moment I put him back in she just attacked him and ripped him apart. By the time I got him out again he had pretty much no fins at all anymore and was completely beat up. He died one day later in the quarantine tank.

I know how you feel when the clowns bite your arms and hands. My B&W female clown does that. She has made my hands bleed. But is it still even possible to pair up yellow stripe maroons? They are very young (juveniles actually only 1/2") and If I got the two smallest most similar ones they still would kill each other? I'll be getting them at the same time, coming from the same tank, they were delivered together on the same day to the LFS! Doesn't that at least give me a 50% chance?

Tank raised clownfish are very hardy and durable fish making them a perfect addition for the novice or seasoned aquarist. If introduced to the aquarium at the same time, many varieties of tank raised clowns can be maintained together in the aquarium.

-I FOUND THIS ON A WEBSITE!

Please trust me and talk with Fingerwrinkles. He has some beautiful tank-raised fish and he can sell you a pre-paired "set". You will be much happier with what he sells. I can't stress enough how hard you will kick yourself if you buy a pair of maroons for that tank.

I really wan to buy some, but okay. I won't. I'll either move my B&W pair into the 34gal or buy something else.
What about copper banded butterfly fish? They get 7.9 inches.

No butterflies with anemones or clams. Especially Copper Banded. And, I'd get a better looking wrasse than a six line. Jawfish might be a good choice depending on your sand. They are fun to watch IMO.

are the jawfish like the Yashi gobies? I bought one and it hides... in the same place... all the time.
There is a 1/2" six line wrasse at the LFS. He is really cute and colorful and that is why I want him.

Speaking of clams, are there any that would be good in the 34gallon red sea max? It has 110 watts of lighting and two filters.
