Monzer's tank restart

Found my powder blue dead this morning. I don't see any scars/wounds. I'm just speechless.
Sounds like internal parasites to me. I had it happen in my frag tank a few years back. Every fish slowly lost their appetite and died. Dead fish everyday until they are all gone. How was the PBT appetite before it died? Was it eating nori aggressively. Like tearing it off the clip? How are the other tang’s appetite?

Apatite was decent. No, not tearing the nori off, but it was getting some and forging around. Same with the other tangs.

Your running a skimmer so doesn’t sound like low oxygen! .. Have you been rearranging any scape kicking up stuff thats deep in the sand bed.. Old undisturbed sand beds can release hydrogen sulfide but you would probably smell it or see numerous black/ red gunk pockets along the bottom of glass…
How much GFO ? And how much Gac were in the ractor? and was it rinsed real good before putting it in?
Since the whole reactor emptied into the tank Im wondering if the fish consumed some of the media? Like did you see any GFO & GAC floating around on the sand bed or sump? Hard to tell from the pics if their on the pinched side..
I have heard in the past that this could cause blockages in fishes gut depending how much they consumed…Doubt your new nems had killer sting..
Can call a local Vet who can send the fish to a lab for necropsy some want the fish in formalin which most vets have since they send in samples daily to labs or use local university labs some have their own requirements..Several years back a friend sent in a few of his koi to UC Davis Aquatic Animal Health Service Department which turned out his fish had KHV ( koi herpesvirus!) I was glad to know only koi get it since I was knee deep in his pond!! He lost 17 outa 20.. Wasn’t that expensive but he got piece of mind.. Sometimes you never know even after necropsies on animals which Ive had numerous done from breeding exotics back in the cowboy days of Miami…
Just tossing some thoughts out there tried to stay outa the rabbit hole!!
Sorry for the fish losses!! Sucks
Hopefully you will figure this out..
Best!!

I ended up ordering new gear to set up a 50 gallon quarantine tank. Before I left on my trip I had picked up a 50 gallon tank from Neptune Systems. It used to be one of their display tanks. It has a few scratches. A couple of finger nails deep scratches. I was thinking of bugging them out, but then I thought, it’s a quarantine tank… I just hope I don’t change my mind later. The plan is to remove all the fish for my main tank and place them into the quarantine tank and clean the heck out of the display.

How many fish are going into your QT?
You are going to need to be able to perform 100% water changes if necessary
And 50% every other day
You will NOT have a bacteria load to breakdown waste and you’ll need to vacuum out any uneaten food and or poop.
If you’re to medicate, what will you use?
Good luck

No more than 8 fish at this point. 5 chromosome, a yellow tang, convict tang and a blond naso tang. The largest is the yellow tang, and that 4”. The rest are under 3”-2”.

I was thinking of instead of doing 100% at once, to vacuum and do 30-40% water changes every 3-4 days . This way at least some of the good bacteria can reproduce. I am going to install a UV at the same time to ensure anything bad gets sterilized.

My only concern is the live rocks at that point. Not sure if I should keep or remove.

Water quality is a major factor
That’s “many” fish....
Daily w/c
If you wait too long ammonia will burn your fish...
UV is helpful but the w/c will remove free swimming bugs immediately
Look up “tank transfer method”
And
Feed well, a hungry fish is a WEAK fish

How many days in a row do you suggest that I do w/c?

Regardless I will look up the tank transfer method. I appreciate the advice. Thank you.

Me...
After first 12 hrs
Repeat after 12hrs
12-18hrs depending on water quality
As after as necessary
If your water is cloudy, it’s too late
Clean water is key
You can’t change too much water
ASSUMING new water is ideal: salinity, temperature and pH
