I don't think the solid pink foam comes in sizes smaller than 4" or so. You might as well do white, they got sizes as thin as 1/2"

Neat! I can't wait to see more photos.

Is it styrofoam insulation you're talking about? Won't the weight of the tank basically just flatten it?

Sorry for the delay. Here are some pics :D

First some supplies I picked up from this past weekend.

Matt was nice enough to give away his surplus of reef equipment so I picked up his old 75g AGA to use as a transfer and holding tank and came away with a fuge light and a couple of pumps as well. Thanks again !

We added a 2x6 for the sill.

We had to remove the central vac and will need to run the 2" vacuum pvc to another location.

Framing started for the top of the stand. (Excuse the clutter) ::)

Why are you using acrylic baffles with glass tank?? Glass would be a much better choice..

I never thought to use glass. In all my DIY sumps, I have always had acrylic baffles inside a glass tank. Is there an advantage ?

I have not planned on enclosing the area behind the tank. If I am super motivated I will finish the underside of the stairs with shelves.

I have officially ordered my tank today. Will be made by Gen at Kritter.

Two weeks from now will be my early Christmas :P

Specs:
48"x36"x24" Acrylic
Eurobraced
3/4" top
1/2" Sides and 3/8" bottom
5"x10" overflow box at center back (1200 gph) 6.5x turnover

Lots to do still:
Paint the stand.
Finish the plywood top.
Finish the opening in the wall.
Frame out the ceiling above the tank.
Finish the underside of the stair
Build lower shelf to stand.

It's just that glass stick to glass better. Silicone stick better to glass than acrylic. I guess if the baffles fail, the water is still in the sump.

Congrats on the new tank.. He makes very nice tank.. I love his work..

Thank you. So far I have not had a baffle fail yet. Guess I schlop on the silicon heavy. :)

Yep, 48" wide, 36" front to back and 24" high.

Nice the deep tank will allow some nice layout options. My ideal tank size is a 72x36x24.

Gen went with 1/2" sides? With my tank he didn't want to do 1/2" sides. Weird. He said he would only make it with 3/4" (I didn't end up going with Gen). And my tank is smaller than yours. Did he say how big of an eurobrace?

Aren't your rims of the tank less than 5". For mine, I have 5" around the front and sides and 6" on the back edge

Mine is 4" all the way around. Funny thing though is I asked for a quote with 1/2" even if he had to do a bigger eurobrace and he wouldn't do it.

The thickness of that tank is definitely thicker than my 48x36x24 :D But then again it has a monster brace over the top.

We'll see Joyce, I just tested the overflow I put on, it's nice and leak free, now need to clean the sucker... but by this weekend fish will be swimming in it!
