High Tide Aquatics

Thomas' CADE Reef 1500 S2

Progress is slow due to my injury, but thanks again to @derek_SR and Kessil for helping me with the A360XE light mount. Finally get to use the raffle winning light! It's up here temporarily while I figure out hardware, rocks, etc. I've been ghost feeding and added one trochus snail from my main system plus some hitchhiking brittle stars and an asterina from the swap.

Panamensis pods added thank you @Coral Hub (Nathan) for the raffle prizes! One bottle of them was so packed, it basically covered all the glass areas in a 140g tank to about 20 per sq inch.View attachment 62206

Picked up my first new refractometer in 20 years yesterday to the day even!

Tank is just sitting now until I'm able to drive again and pick up my rocks.

Where are the rocks located? I can see if I can pick them for you if you want.

It's a large structure currently in Kenny's sump so might be hard to transport unless you're coming down to the Mountain View area sometime. Plus I need to go into @Kensington Reefer's yard for others, but I'm pretty sure his stairs would take my leg clean off haha.
You moved to the Mountain View area? This is a bit outside my typical weekend radius, although not totally unlikely. Will keep that in mind. I have been hearing about these infamous stairs (more than the Point Reyes Lighthouse?), and the various yard finds. Very interested to see this with my own eyes.

Holler...

@Darkxerox
Sorry, I have not yet installed the old fart stair chair
You’ll have to recover first
May it be soon
Speedy recovery to ya

Big shipment from Algae Barn came in Friday. They were VERY generous with free pods and phyto for the bumpy tank delivery process (not due to their own actions I must add). I used up my pod points from the tank purchase on 10x captive bred trochus and 25x cerith snails. Also picked up a Tunze magnet scraper plus some PNS bacteria to jump start things. Added 40lbs more sand too.

Today, one rock structure in thanks to @under_water_ninja and @Coral reefer plus a delivery from my parents!

Next steps are to let things cook more and figure out the lighting design.

Yellow sno first I believe. The ProBio comes only later from what I remember. I also think Ken/Hydrospace mentiond to me that the yellow sno has phosphate in it, so you might want to watch your phosphate levels with the NSW already having phosphate in it. Although one bottle will not be terrible. Are you thinking of adding Prodbio too?

I should have sold you my Tunze scraper. I have so many of them now which I am not using…

Another used fish! Copperband female from @PjFish by way of @salty_taste :

Added two purple firefish from High Tide along with a black molly (impossible to see with the black background), and moved over my springeri (also almost impossible to see with the black back). Another rock structure from @Coral reefer curing in a bucket:

I'll take a FTS once the water clears up more.

How is the overflow setup and loudness? Have you been having to adjust the gate valve a lot at all?

Any concern with the check valve on the return line and how to clean it, since it looks like it is inside the ATO reservoir?

I am surprised you are not starting the cycle with (easy) corals.
Starting with some soon, my lights are still on backorder.

@dangalang the overflow is dead silent when adjusted properly. Shocked out how completely quiet this tank is. The temporary AI return pump is quiet, the MP40 is quiet, the Icecap 2k gyre is quiet, and the Bubble King is silent. Haven't touched flow rates or valves in over a week. The check valve on the return line could be a potential concern, but I left enough room behind the tank for @Srt4eric to fit an arm lol.

Great to see another Cade owner. I have the 900 model (90g) and like it a lot. Most reefers who come by have never heard of the brand. I've had mines for 2 years and although the drain is silent when tuned, I do have to re-tune it a few times every week. It's not a big deal. I think it happens because over time crud or fish food can make the main drain more constricted, causing water to spill over into the emergency drain. You just got to turn the valve to let it through. I also run a combination of a Reefi Uno and a Kessil a360x light and it works great. I don't keep much sps at all though. The gravity ATO is also really awesome. No problems with my check valve.

Threw on a second MP40, added an algae blenny from Kenny's along with some grunge (live mysis, pods, spaghetti worms, etc.), the cured rock structure, and installed the Abyzz A100 return!

Dead silent all around. @Apon stopped by with @glee to take a look too (good meeting you Garvin!)

Skimmer is pulling out some nice looking junk too:

Still need to figure out how to mount the Plank next week given the ATO chamber in the rear. @eksblenny do you have an auto feeder on your CADE?
