I bought the Stream 3 while I was in Germany relatively cheaply (in my journal https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/alex’s-im-150-ext.34668/page-41#post-553011)

The design concerns are silly. I finally have all the right connectors to hook it up to the Hydros, and then realized two gyres and two MP40s are enough for this tank.

So it's sitting now in its own box waiting for a bigger tank. A shame for this outstanding pump.

So stream 3 or Wavebox? Price is similar, so it's not an issue. If i have to keep buying a new Jebao every 6 months, it makes much more since to get the tunze with its 5 year warranty. My only real concern with the wave box is the fact that it will be basically underwater, since my water level is up near the top of the tank, and being braced, it must stay below. Does this negate the benefit of the box and make it essentially a pulsing pump, instead of truly displacing water?

Thoughts?
Decisions, decisions!

Well, I stopped being lazy and pulled out the wave box and pump. Impeller seemed to be frozen. A closer look revealed a tiny snail lodged in between the impeller and housing. I removed it and the pump fired right up! Guess I’ll be firing this back up and save myself $400

I don’t know if the wave box design has changed in the past 25 years or not. The concept is really simple. It’s just a forward and reverse motion of the pump.
Having said that. It’s just an expensive Powerhead in a box.
I think I read somewhere that the stream 3 can do a standing wave also. If this is true the it’s way more worth it to buy a new Powerhead design that this way more efficient

There was an episode of reef dudes and Roger from tunze. Roger said they are disconnected since 2024 and will sell off the old stock. He said that they were great in the old days but now you can get the same action with two Powerheads and it’s more efficient. He also said the wave box makes a darth Vader sound. I do remember that now that he said it.

Pretty sure I'd get splashing water noises too from my emergency overflow with a standing wave.

Listening to some videos online it sounds pretty noisy even without this.

I’m pretty sure there’s nothing special about the Powerhead in the wave box. I took mine apart years ago. It’s just forward and reversed. You can probably run it without the box and put another Powerhead opposite and sync it or anti sync it. I don’t remember. It should work the same way tho.

I could be way off here- I am not sure mine goes in reverse. I think it is an on/off situation. ON empties the box while OFF allows water to overflow into the top of the box and also back in through the lower port the pump is in.
Oh maybe. I don’t remember. I just assumed. Your right. It probably uses natural physics to fill it back up.
