got ethical husbandry?

Who has the largest collection of chalice corals private or retail?

That actually sounds like a really interesting experiment. I wonder how it will work once it eventually converges in the middle? Especially these ones with different color growth rims

I’d probably keep the center for re-grow out, and try to get some of the different colored frags from the edges to fuse again. I’ve had some success getting red/blue cuts to fuse but they have to be fresh cuts, placed edge to edge and helps if the skeleton is aligned so the growth ridges point in the same direction. Once the growth rim comes in sometimes the same chalice will grow over itself rather than fuse again. This would be trying to get three frags to fuse... if I can grow other types of rainbow chalices out to where I have more expendable pieces it would be interesting to try to see if they would also fuse in some conditions.

Chalices have always been my reef kryptonite, while I absolutely can keep them alive they just never seem to grow in any reasonable time period. Had one that looked great, color was great, 2 years later it barely grew larger than the frag plug it was on.

@sfsuphysics I’m curious what kind of PAR/flow did you have your chalices in? I’ve noticed they can slow down in too much as well as too little light or if you don’t feed them. I’m not sure but seems like slower water movement helps them capture their own food.

@Coral reefer I searched a few online vendors and the most I saw was 35 at WWC and they’re may have been duplicates. Most vendors I searched had 20-30 different colors listed

But that’s not the best way to tell cause they tend to list what’s available not what’s in their whole collection.

Are you looking to expand your collection, or to chat with another collector and discuss your experiences with the different chalices. I’m not sure what causes the color change, but the orange chalice I got from you how has a bunch of yellow streaks

Honestly couldn't say what the PAR was. I've had them in numerous tanks under different lighting, metal halides, t5s, LEDs. But I don't think the light was ever too extreme to be honest, I mean I mostly would grow SPS, but still always had a good range of brightness.

Personally I think they know I'm not exactly a wealthy person, probably sees me as more of a cup coral type of guy *rimshot*

Mike, your collection is crazy..does all your chalices identified or you have some that are not named or know in the market? I just cannot imagine what a 100 chalice looks like ha.

Many have been ordered from asd, so named, but not legit names. They just make stuff up.
some from wwc
Many from AC. No names.
A few from Neptune. No names.
A smattering from members here. Mostly not named stuff.
