Dust of your fans, it's gonna be a warm couple of days

My wife didn't get home until 6PM today. She turned on the AC as soon as she came home but it's not a small house. It takes a little while to cool down ;D ..

I will set the light to turn on around 7PM. That's when I'm usually home anyway. House should be cool at that time. Plus I haven't hook up any fan yet. I want to see how hot it gets without fan.

I was going to turn off the timers on my lights today but didn't get to it this morning. Instead I was cleaning out water that was standing about one inch high in my stand. My ATO top-off decided to not turn off the pump in my top off bucket last night and made the skimmer overflow... Lucky it was only about 4g so it only dropped my SG 0.002.
So this was a good test for my new chiller and it did a great job. The house was 89 degrees when my wife got home and the tank did not go over 80 with the MH's on for 7hrs :)

Lucky me. Wanted to hook up my main tank to the new downstairs sump bu I am afraid to take the chiller offline for any extended period of time while I do it.

Friggin heat. I moved away from Florida and Texas to get away from this......... argh

Heheh Bryan, don't worry this is the el Nino of heat for this area, it might pop up ever few years, but then nothing for the rest of the summer.

Since we're all sharing war stories.... my tanks are downstairs which may have saved them, the fish room got to about 83 degrees or so, however my porch off the back where my sump is located got to 105°, well it doesn't take a wiz in thermodynamics to understand which way heat is going to flow in that system! I had a fan on full blast on the sump, another one trying circulate the air maybe get it out. Tank got just over 84, I did end up turning the lights off in the early afternoon just as a precautionary measure. I think one of my summer projects is to rebuild that porch and throw in some air vents or something to pull the air out if it gets hot like this again, this would definitely put a hamper on my lagoon style sunlit tank, I mean having all sorts of free sun instead of using lights is fine but if I have to use all sorts of exotic cooling (and then heating when it does get cold) I don't know if it's worth it.

Luckily today's not supposed to be anywhere near what it was yesterday, anyways I'm tossing a fan on the sump again when I take off to give my final at 10am.

I ended up just puting the lights with a dead spot during the middle of the day like I used to run them on the 20 gal 9this cut out my old hair algae issue) there is a fan running on the tank and it seems to have kep it at a high of 81

Mike you dont have to do anything to exotic . look into attic fans / gable fans . they come with adjustable thermostats and are made for that app. I just choped one of those thermostats up last night . I put plug ends on it , pluged a fan into it ant set it to the temp I want to kick on .

I did start looking into attic fans, I was not aware that they had a built in thermostat, and they definitely are going on my porch rebuild list, I'm guessing they don't pull much more power than any other large fan either, less juice than A/C or a Chiller that's for sure!
