I seen this stuff on Amazon. It is more expensive but is ACS grade which is the highest great above food and lab grade. Not sure if that matters in this case just tossing it out there because I wanna be apart of the cool kids too.
Damnn $25 bucks for just a 1lb of that, ill stick to the 40lb bag of morton for a bit more of the cost. Seems more ideal getting way more for almost the same price.

Yeah like I said I just want to be apart of the cool kids lol I have no idea about using this but only from what I have read here. I just assumed that if you are going to use it you would want the purest form of it.

You ain't wrong, but given that $25 is basically a lifetime supply of it - the price is completely inconsequential compared to the amount of money we spend on everything else in this hobby. My $22 bag is going to outlive me.

Have you all been able to use KCl to effectively eliminate red bugs / black bugs? It seems accepted as a treatment for AEFW but I wasn't sure about these guys. Never had them but always been worried about catching them...

Never had black bugs that I know of. Red bugs. Just use interceptor.

+1 on the smaller version

40 lbs is alot of dip...when your not using it it's taking up space...I still have a huge bag of dowflake somewhere in my storage from a group buy we did here in the early 2000's.

I wouldn't personally want a 40lbs bag of the stuff if it was free.

I wouldnt mind storing a bottle this size, but oral versions have a small amount of sweetening agent, so not viable ..there are smaller vials for IV use as well, but opening those to pour out is a PITA.

So do you dip new frags in KCl and interceptor?
Potassium chloride and whatever other dip I have on hand. Usually something that is tea tree oil based. Then I inspect with a 40x magnifying glass. I’m not saying I get all bugs. I don’t think anyone can get them all.

It definitely seems like KCl is a safe and effective treatment to add to the mix (I’ll be picking up some myself). I appreciate you all putting it in my radar! I was just curious about the red/black bugs as AEFW efficacy seems well documented but I had a harder time finding definitive reports of usage for other acro pests in my quick googling.

On the topic of interceptor (not to hijack the thread)- have you been able to get it? I recall trying to purchase some a while back just to have on hand and couldn’t get it without a prescription and couldn’t get a vet to write me one.

I used PolypLabs Reef Primer today on my frags from the swap for the first time. It looks and dissolves like KCl salt. Ingredients list says only Potassium salts. Any idea why it’s like 25 times more expensive than pure fine granular KCl? And hundreds of times more than the KCl rocks above that have to be ground up? It is better in some way or just the reef hobby markup?

Crazy isn’t it. I gave away more than a 100 bags of dip and I still have over half a 40lbs left.

@ReyDeFarts Great job on your experiment. It's nice to know that the big pieces are really not worth buying. Initially, 40lbs for such a low price seems great, but in the long run it isn't.
I appreciate your time and effort!
