Reef nutrition

Ofzakaria purple pink Milli

I was also hoping to make a trip out of it since I’m a bit aways. Allows me to meet more members along with getting more stops rather than just one… but thanks for the advice
You’ll have the best luck contacting people directly. Focusing on chains that seem active will help.
Requesting less rare pieces will likely be easier when you’re new

I’m in the process of establishing a new tank and didn’t think it would hurt to get on these lists?! Not sure how things worked. Hope I didn’t offend anyone?
Nobody should be offended. You’re not the first. Won’t be the last. The barcode system is much better than before, but not perfect. Seeing a dozen notifications on old likely dead chains gets old

Plan to attend the next frag swap. Best place to get lots of different types of corals. No one object to you requesting dbtc corals, just you asked for like 30+ all in same time period, clogs up the entire front page. If u limit it to 2-3 requests here and there or just message that member directly and ask if it's still available would be the more efficent way to proceed.

how old is this new tank? you enrolled in a lot of sps, if your tank is not a over a year old, do not try it unless you want a lot of white sticks.

more like over 160+ requests, but who's counting

Got it hope to attend if time and life permits

Thanks for the advice. I have quite a few in there now “testing” the waters if you will. And they seem to be doing fine and actually coloring up quite nicely. Yes, it’s less then a year but I e been dosing bacteria to accelerate the growth.

Or I’ll just drop them all once I get a chance
I would just let it be since I think it makes another notification if you drop out of line lol. It’s ok it’s not too big of a deal, people will start posting in other threads and the threads you brought back to life will be pushed down.

As for as requesting a lot of DBTC, I don’t think it’s a problem if you have an established tank and a strategy, but not for a new tank that’s still establishing. Lot of ups and downs with new tanks. The point of DBTC is to grow out and spread coral around. Not sure what kind of SPS you’re growing out currently but some of the rare pieces you requested are on a different ball park of difficulty, hence why a lot of these threads are dead. Not sure if barcode shows it when you request but a lot of people actually have rules to their DBTC as well that you should checkout before requesting. I know personally I don’t give DBTC to people without tank journals because I like to see their tank and make sure the person im giving coral to actually has the ability to grow the coral out and spread it. Deaths happen but it would be kinda dumb just to give a bunch of coral for someone to put into a new establishing tank. I would suggest to ride it out with what you have, maybe pickup some stater DBTC pieces, and wait until things settle down before requesting some of the harder stuff. Also, make a tank journal so people can see your progress.

You didn’t break any rule and yeah it might be a little annoying for the threads to be revived to the main page but it’s not the end of the world. They’ll get pushed down and filled in with other stuff in a couple days. Like Mike said, you’re not the first and won’t be the last. Hopefully you’ll be able to make it out to the next frag swap, like Michael said, good place to get your hands on some different coral and meet other members. Hope to see you there!

Thanks for the advice. Personally I have close to 10 years of experience in the reef aquaria so I think I know what I’m doing for the most part.

But of course one can not know it all as it’s more of an art form then pure science. Too many factors and dimensions to know for sure. However, the science is catching up. I was using radium halides back in the day and that was the thing.

Well thanks all for the advice and I’ll definitely not be doing that again.

Hope to see you guys at the frag swap!
