Quick sponsor update Reed Mariculture/Reef Nutrition doubled their initial donation of $100 for this event to $200! So member's choice... 2x $100 Gift Cards or 4x $50 Gift Cards ???
IMO I think 2x $100 would make the most sense. Shipping is expensive so a $50 gift card a big portion of that would just be shipping. At least $100 would cover a couple things + shipping so winner doesn’t have to go out of pocket so muchQuick sponsor update Reed Mariculture/Reef Nutrition doubled their initial donation of $100 for this event to $200! Pardon my ignorance, but what is "TL;DL"?We will be having a members-only frag swap on February 23, 2025, on the peninsula!
Due to issues in the last couple frag swaps, we're making some changes going forward, starting with this one. TL;DR usernames on cups will be heavily enforced and there will be quite a bit more scrutiny surrounding coral + bonus coral check-in. Read more here.

How does a BAR Frag Swap Work? (This post is older but a good intro to how swaps work for those of you who haven’t been to one yet (some details have changed))
There will be bonus rounds, and a list of bonus/ultra coral can be found here: https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/complete-bonus-ultra-coral-list-2023-update.34392/
Ineligible corals:

Please note that Captain Jerks, Grandis Palys, Brown button palythoas, nuclear green palythoas, and all species of caulerpa algae are BANNED. We're trying to limit the proliferation of these corals given their higher likelihood of palytoxin, so we will not accept these as frags for the swap, and request they not be brought as freebies. Possession of caulerpa algae is banned by the state of California.
Valid corals:
Valid bonus/ultra corals:
- Corals MUST be in clear plastic containers, that includes lids and sides, so no styrofoam. Plastic bags will not be allowed.
- Corals MUST be labeled with at the very least a description (e.g. name and/or color + coral type), your username. The approximate lighting level they are under can be helpful.
- PLEASE LABEL THE LID OF THE CONTAINERS. Everyone will look down on them, so it makes it easier.
- Corals should be healthy and pest free. While we should assume everything could have hidden pests, if your frag plug has Aiptasia or signs of pests it will not be accepted.
- Frag sizes you should use will vary. I like to say "what kind of frag would you like to see" and use that as a guideline for how much/how big.
- There's always a debate about mounted versus unmounted corals, and that probably will never get settled, as a result no requirement either way.
- Things like anemones are ok if they're of a desirable nature i.e. bubble tips, maxi-mini carpets, NOT Aiptasia.
- Sponges are not valid frags and neither is macroalgae, but these—with the exception of caulerpa—can be brought for the freebie table.
- Caulerpa species, which are now illegal, carry a hefty fine to possess or sell in CA.
- MUST be labeled clearly and cleared before the frag swap.
- Registration and coral running is hectic; to be fair to everyone, we cannot make spot decisions at the swap.
- If you think your coral/anemone/etc. should be on the bonus/ultra list, ask beforehand.
Google says it means “too long; don’t listen” but I don’t understand the context eitherPardon my ignorance, but what is "TL;DL"?
Its like the summary or abstract of a text thats rather long and would go unread by people.Pardon my ignorance, but what is "TL;DL"?
that sounds fun! I hope they allow you to do thatI want to bring a bunch of Green Monti Cap for "Pay it forward". Is it okay for me to bring it in a 5 gallon bucket and let people take what they want? I can't pack all of it in containers.
Any suggestions on how I can get it distributed?
