If you answered

The answer is two due to order of operations.

PEMDAS:

P - Parenthesis (Please)
E - Exponents (Excuse)
M - Multiplication (My)
D - Division (Dear)
A - Add (Aunt)
S - Subtract (Sally)

EDIT: Oh NVM... Since M&D are in the same step I guess you would do the operations in the order they come in.

I think by parenthesis being before M or D it means the stuff inside the parenthesis. The 2(12) would be considered multiplication because it's the same as 2 x 12.

It's 288. Follow order of operations. Division and multiplication are equivalent, thus you follow the equation from Left to Right. Thus, 48 / 2 = 24 then times 24 by 12.
