Mmmm... Sea Cucumbers!! ... Actually, aren't Sea Cucumbers a delicacy in Japan? I remember a very long time a go when I was in Baja on the Sea of Cortez, that a local told me that the Sea Cucumber population was getting wiped out because they were being caught and sold abroad... Sorry for the digression... Welcome Hiep! One new guy to another!

Don't even have to go that far.

Used to get that at Chinese banquets locally. Is that still the case? Been a while since I've gone to one.

Ever see those things in Chinatown? They're all dried up. To prep them, you char the outside to get rid of whatever, then soak it for a couple days to rehydrate. You have to keep changing the water. It can get stinky.

After you're done smacking people with them, you cook em up with abalone and fancy shiitakes :D

Interesting Mr. Ugly! Now I'm curious what they taste like! Though the the thought of populations of them being wiped out due to its being a desirable food source would prevent me from trying them. ... Thanks again for the welcomes everyone!

yup still can get them at Chinese restaurant. It's good if you know how to cook them. Taste really bad if you don't. You won't want to eat anything else after you have a bad one..

:D You're going to easy on him, Mark. About time you joined a local forum, Hiep. :D

Yup, cucumber is used pretty often in chinese cooking, especially the banquets.

You guys do know what cucumbers eat right?
[/quote]

Probably the same thing lobster, crab, catfish and fungal mushrooms eat. Organic corn meal.

And if cooked right they don't taste much like anything :) I used to harvest them, along with scallops, rockcod, seawead, abalone, urchins, mussles, gooseneck barnacles, crabs and a few other fish for a sushi/Japanese appitizer session prior to a giant 9 course abalone meal. It was a trip to Stillwater Cove where people paid to go on and a few of us cooked up a huge storm :)

I thought I wrote MSG ??? .. Not only I'm colorblind, I'm now having problem putting letter in order :( ..
